Well, my story starts on Friday night. After having a crazy day at work, Sarah (Sarah The Boring) and I went to my place to wait for Holly (Vampyyress) to pick us up. We were heading up to meet Courtney (Courtlyn) at her school. We got there around 9, watched Clerks and fell asleep.
Saturday morning we woke up at 5:30 and headed out at 6:15. We had our near death experience before we even hit the highway - almost getting creamed by some guy at a red light. But we were off and incredibly excited about our trip.
Our first destination was Willowbrook Mall. It was on our way (sort of) and since Kevin said he wasn't planning to do a lot of signing at Vulgarthon, we figured we'd get it out of the way. We arrived at the mall around 1:30. We met a couple of cool people in line (What's up Gerald?) and Mewes' antics on the first floor kept us amused. Courtney and Holly went down to try for autographs and photos. . After waiting in line for 4 hours, we finally got in to Suncoast to meet the man himself. (Did anyone else catch the irony of him sitting in front of the Family section of the store?).
Tired, achy, and hungry, we decided to just forge ahead to Eatontown, where we could get showers and eat. We finally got to our hotel around 7:30. After freshening up a bit, we headed over to the Holiday Inn (we were cheap and stayed at Red Roof) for food and hoping to meet some fellow Vthon goers. We didn't see anyone in the bar, so after we ordered our food, Courtney and I went exploring. Thanks to the friendly desk clerk, we found the Brits and Remy! They decided to come down and join us for dinner, so we pushed some tables together.
While the guys were still eating, another guy (I think it was Brian) came over to talk to us. He invited us to join a group in the bar. Unfortunately, several people in our group were under 21, but luckily, they let us push more tables together in the restaurant so we could all sit together. We were promoting positive multicultural relations that night - the Brits, Remy (the French guy) and those crazy Canadians plus us crazy Americans meant a good time for all. Every time anyone would walk into the lounge area, Craig would yell "V2K" really loud - so our group grew as the night went on.
Sunday we all woke up really early to our surprise. We decided to join the others for breakfast. Well, Marc and Craig got the time change screwed up and went earlier than the rest of us. But we did meet Len and Cassandra in the lobby. Eventually we ended up in Red Bank having lunch at a great little deli a couple doors down from the Stash. After everyone ate, we went over to the Stash to pick up tickets and buy cool swag. Then Len and I had to head back to the Holiday Inn to organize the tour.
What a zoo!! More than 70 people showed up - we were expecting about 50. But we finally got everyone in cars and everyone with radios and directions and we headed off. First we froze our asses off in Victory Park. Then we headed over to Quick Stop (via Posten's for our group). Everyone was nuts at the Quick Stop (especially the poor, unsuspecting employees). Our group behaving pretty decent though - buying a ton of Gatorade, Pringles, and other assorted stuff. One guy in the back pretended he was a milk maid and then started looking for the 'perfect carton of eggs' which were some nice photo ops. While we were all milling around outside, some guy (who I don't think was with us) jumped up on the roof with a hockey stick - another great photo op! Len told everyone at that point that it was up to them if they wanted to go see the Marina Diner or not.
Our group decided to head back to the Stash for more swag and pictures. After we got back to the hotel, we parted ways. Courtney and Holly went to dinner with the Canadians and I took a break from Vthon stuff to visit a good friend at Monmouth.
We all caught up later at the Holiday Inn though - which was insanely packed with Vthon goers. Even some Askew people were there. I ended up at the same table as Vincent, who was really fun to hang out with. We tried to get him to spill some dirt of VA5 and the Surprise Title, but I guess we didn't buy him enough drinks J
After another late night, we again woke up early. Hanging out in line was pretty fun. There was this crazy gorilla running around hitting people with a big bone. I walked up and down the line getting all the cool people I'd met to sign my Vthon shirt.
We were finally let in the theater around 10:45. Kevin was awesome, holding the door and taking pictures and stuff. We were in Theater One (the cool theater!) and got some nice aisle seats near the back were we could just chill. The flicks were awesome - especially A Better Place. During the break, Sarah and I just kind of walked around and grabbed fast food, which we ate on a bench outside of the theater. Brian O'Halloran came in while we were sitting out there, so I got him to sign my shirt. Then we watched the cartoons and BHD. By this point we're exhausted, so we call the cab company to come get us. They tell us they're CLOSED! Well, we hung outside the theater for a while and finally found some nice people to give us rides (Thanks Jen - Illusion6 and the guy whose name I do not know!). I decided to head over to the Holiday Inn for one last Vthon party. We were hanging out with O'Halloran and Vincent and the bartender told us if we didn't leave, we would all get arrested. This is when we ended up at the infamous 509 party. I didn't stay exceptionally long - but I did have a great time!
Tuesday morning we had trouble getting up to leave. We finally got on the road at 10:30. It takes forever to drive across Pennsylvania, we learned. But it was definitely worth it and I can't WAIT 'til the next event!
